Season Assignment Final Hand In

So, the two modules we're currently working are due to be handed in tomorrow. Having kept everything top secret I think I can now reveal my work.

After taking away what was discussed in the last presentation of our 'Winter' images, I have chosen this as my final...

I think this image depicts Winter perfectly. I really like how it's turned out under a macro lens, I like that you can see the veins on the leaf so clear.

This assignment had me pretty stuck for what to do at first and I'll be glad to see the back of it but I think my image works really well and I have taken a lot out of the actual task itself so all's well that ends well as they say...

Colour Swatch Assignment Final.

This assignment has been revisited and revised as I got it a kind of wrong last time. I have chosen 5 images to go with 5 representative words and then I have 3 images to match my colour swatch which was blue.

I have chosen Light to represent this image.

 For this image, Motion

  Movement represents this image.

I have chosen Shade to represent this image.

Shape represents this image.

For my colour swatch I have chosen the following images...

 This image represents Texture.

 This image represents Natural.

This image represents Reflection.

As I mentioned at the start this assignment has been re-done. I think if you look at the images in my first attempt compared to now, you will see a major difference in my images. My approach and my ideas have been completely changed and this is just 6 weeks in, let's see how I come on over the next three years!

Colour studies assignment 'second draft'

Second draft I hear you say? Yes that's correct, and I think the results will be surprising! So for my first draft I opted to go for the 'cosey' type look, shot inside, infront of an open fire. I came away from my first presentation with a few new ideas floating around my head and although I left it kind of late, started to put them into practice...

So I went for a walk round the park local to my house and tried to find some Winter looking trees, plants and bushes, but to no avail! Walking back home I came across this tree which was kind of boldly displaying the berries it produces. They kind of take you straight to a Christmas kind of feeling so I went ahead with my shot.

On my way home from the park I took a nice, quiet stroll round the cemetery round the corner from my house. Still the trees in here we're only just getting to a Autumn type state! I managed to find some brown, dying leaves so they were collected and off I went home, just as I was leaving the cemetery gates I found another berry tree and collected some of them.

After raiding the cupboard for a Tupperware tub, all my findings went in, half filled with water, then into the freezer for a good few hours..

This image has had the brightness upped slightly to enhance the ice.

The 'snow' was basically just ice scrapped from the inside of the freezer but I think it works quite well.

This image was the one that probably received the most appreciation. When I first viewed this image I wasn't happy with the result but after seeing it projected at uni I kind of like it a lot now, funny what a little outside appreciation can do!

As I mentioned in the 'First Draft', I really enjoy these group presentations, even though I feel really uncomfortable at the start! It's good to have a bit of criticism, it drives me on to come up with other ideas. The biggest criticism of these images was the flower in the images, Winter wouldn't usually produce a flower like this but I picked it because it's in the process of decaying and I thought it would add to the 'change' that occurs in Winter.

It was also mentioned to try and create an image what is less obvious as to what's there, so after the lesson I borrowed a macro lens from uni. My frozen 'props' were still in the freezer so I've had a play about trying to get THAT shot but I shall leave that for another day. I've stuck another lot of props in so they'll be shot and viewed very soon.

I'll always be striving for THAT shot, that's what drives me! =)

So now that's my breakdown of things, tell me how you feel, good or bad...

Colour studies assignment 'first draft'

Today we were split into two groups to present and discuss our first images. The images were projected out and the group had to guess the season each image is supposed to depict and why it made them associate it to that season. These sessions are enjoyable for me because it gives us a chance to see each persons different style and take on things, and discuss other ideas and routes we can possibly take to achieve our final image.

As I have been given 'Winter' to work with I went for the cosy kind of image...

During the discussion about the images it was noted that on the first image, although it's inside and the fire's on, the floor could be made to look more inviting if a rug was lay out, and after hearing this I can see the thinking behind it.

For the third image it was brought up that from the view of the picture it seems as though the table is 'standing in the way' of the viewer and the fire, therefor holding back on the cosy feel, I can kind of see the thinking behind this but I put across that from the angle and height of the image it looks to me that you could be sat on the settee, a nice hot chocolate in hand with your feet up but I guess that shows how peoples views vary.

I included a few other images from a sunset shoot I did last week...

I included these images to try and get across the whole 'Winter sunset' theme but that's kind of hard when we're still in a Autumn type season, the only thing is nothing's 'falling' as yet, you just have to love good old British weather eh! I think the last image works best for me, I chose this because of the lack of cloud in the sky and the orangey/pink, low lying colours. Someone pointed out that to them, the plane could also signify winter as people like to pack up and get some sun during these times.

My final image is due in on November 4th so I shall share it with you as soon as I possibly can....

Colour studies assignment research.

The interpretation of colour within a landscape is our second colour assignment.

So we were split into 3 groups and each group given a season to work with, from Spring, Autumn and Winter. My group have been given Winter which might seem quite a good choice and I'd have to agree, if it was December-February! Right now it's October and it's Autumn and we have the challenge to produce a landscape image which depicts Winter but hey it could of been worse, we could of had spring!

I have sat down and tried to think of things I would associate with Winter:

The first and most obvious word I came up with was snow, I was stuck for quite a while with just this wrote down but gradually started thinking of more words.

As I mentioned we're in October at the minute so there's no sign of snow, quite the opposite actually but that's British weather for you!

Having looked about on Google images I've come across some landscape images what would be perfect, unfortunately I don't live in the Arctic circle or have a snow machine to hand but here's a couple of images I have found...

I think I may have to think so far out of the box on this assignment but I've organised a brainstorming session with the rest of my Winter group so hopefully we can all sit down and inspire each other to come up with the perfect image.

The results of my assignment will be up at a later date so keep your eyes open...

Colour assignment

So last week we were given an envelope containing a colour swatch and a random word and we had to take five images relating to five different words and three other images combining the colour and three separate words and we had until today to prepare them and then present them. I kinda got the order mixed up but here's my results...

As I said, I managed to get the order wrong! The above images are representative of one word instead of five separate words, the word being 'Texture' if you hadn't already guessed.

The following images represent three different words and match the blue colour swatch..

For this image I chose 'Natural' for the sky but having viewed the image further I think 'Shape' would fit more in keeping with the building.

For this next image I chose the word 'Light' to represent the blue window panel.

This picture was actually taken back in May but I made this clear in my presentation, the reason I used this image was due to the poor quality of the images I took on Friday so substituted them for this one. The word I used for this image was 'Reflection', which you can see fits quite well being a glass building.

Anyway, I think I shall take some time out soon to re-do the assignment and think a bit more creatively and make sure I get it right this time!

As always, thanks for stopping by =)

Welcome....

This blog is another part of my university studies, I shall be posting assignments, notes, ideas and any other things I can cram into the virtual world! My first proper post will be up later so keep a look out =)
